Parthians

A people of Iran, of Scythian origin, and very warlike. By about 130 BCE their empire extended from the Euphrates to the Indus. By 53 BCE they were threatening Syria and Asia Minor but were checked by the Romans under Ventidius in 38 BCE and by the victory in 20 BCE under Augustus. The Parthians had a brief intervention in the affairs of Judaea when they supported Antigonus Ⅱ in Jerusalem until Herod was installed as king by the Romans. Some Parthians were in Jerusalem for Pentecost (Acts 2:9).
